Participants included the 11 TALES Doctoral Candidates (DCs) enrolled in universities and institutions from all over Europe and the UK, as well as 10 external attendees from the University of Naples, the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) and the Tor Vergata University of Rome.
The training event started with a series of lectures by the supervisors of the network and TALES associate partner Dr. Claudia Raiteri, targeting a comprehensive overview of AGN physics and demography through the application of diverse time-domain analysis methods and tools. This was followed by presentations by TALES DCs and some of the external early-career attendees, who had the chance to introduce themselves, describe their backgrounds and research trajectories, and share the details of their planned projects and preliminary results.
In the middle of the week, supervisors and DCs had the opportunity to carry out their first in-person meetings, and the Consortium had the chance to explore together the beautiful city of Naples during an exceptional tour arranged by our local organiser.

The last two days of the event were devoted to a hands-on Machine Learning workshop provided by Dr. D. Gronkiewicz from Promity, followed by two exciting talks on ML applications to astronomy kindly given by Prof. M. Brescia and Dr. S. Cavuoti from the University of Naples.
The programme and material from the 1st TALES training event can be found at the dedicated Indico webpage.
This first gathering set a wonderful tone for the network, establishing a collaborative, supportive and inspiring spirit that has left the entire TALES Consortium eagerly looking forward to what lies ahead.
